I’m going to talk about MPN ID’s this month and the implications these numbers can have on your existing legacy Silver or Gold Competencies and the new Solution Partner Designations.
To begin with, you will be part of Microsoft Partner Centre and have an organization MPN ID, your business is issued this when you first sign up. Then, you get another MPN ID for each program you enroll your businesses Microsoft Partner Centre account into…for instance, the CSP Program or as an ISV.
Anyway, these numbers are very important, and you need to use these numbers in different ways depending on the program you are managing at the time, or the task being performed. The one I want to discuss in this article is the MPN ID you use when ordering licenses from Dicker Data in the DD CSP Portal.
This number can be viewed in your Microsoft Partner Centre account, as shown in the screen shot below, you get here by clicking on the blue circle in the top righthand corner (see arrow), then My Profile, then follow the below. If you have more than one program you will need to click on the CSP Tab highlighted, and your CSP MPN ID will show where the circle is.
So, now you have the right MPN ID, this is the one that you are going to use for your CSP licensing, with one exception;
If you have partnered with a Dynamics Partner or Power BI Partner, they will need to have the licensing associated to them, using their MPN ID. You will be providing the tenant, but they are getting acknowledged for the licensing for their Solution Designations. This means you will be invoiced; you will receive the margin and the specialist partner you have engaged with gets the acknowledgement they need. Also, do keep in mind that unless you have a Business Applications or Digital App Innovation Solutions Designation, you will receive absolutely no benefits or incentives keeping this licensing under your MPN ID.
So, when you your team are next ordering licenses in the DD CSP Portal, make sure the correct MPN ID is being used when procuring the license for the first time.
You can also add a new MPN ID here if you need to add a new partner you’re working with.
I recommend sharing this number with any of your team that manage your customers’ licensing. There’s no security risk involved, and it will ensure that you are being remunerated appropriately by Microsoft.
Please don't hesitate to contact me or any of the team if you wish to discuss this further or require more details.
As always, be well and enjoy the day!
