How to improve your Teams Rooms meetings with speaker recognition and Copilot
Teams Rooms on Windows devices can now recognise individual speakers in meetings, regardless of the microphone type. This feature was previously only available with intelligent speaker devices. Speaker recognition enables precise voice capture, intelligent meeting recap, and Copilot insights for every participant. You can easily create a voice profile in the Teams desktop and enroll your voice to enable speaker recognition.
Why speaker recognition matters for Teams Rooms
Speaker recognition uses AI to analyse the unique vocal characteristics of each speaker, such as pitch, tone, and speaking style. It creates a voiceprint for each participant, similar to a fingerprint for their voice. In a hybrid meeting, speaker recognition can identify speakers in the room and attribute their contributions in the meeting transcript and Copilot. This helps you keep track of who said what, summarise everyone's perspectives, and address action items. Without speaker recognition, the audio and video feeds of participants in the room are assigned to the location (e.g., Conf room 1245) rather than each speaker, making it hard to identify individuals or get insights from Copilot.
How to get started with speaker recognition and Copilot for Teams Rooms
Speaker recognition and Copilot are available now for all Teams Rooms on Windows devices. Later this year, they will be extended to Teams Rooms on Android and the Teams desktop for bring your own device (BYOD) meeting spaces. To enable speaker recognition and Copilot for your organisation, you need to follow these steps:
- End users can create a voice profile in the Teams desktop by going to aka.ms/voiceprofile.
- IT admins need to enable voice enrollment using Teams meeting policy and PowerShell scripts. You can find the information and enrollment scripts at Overview of voice and face enrollment - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn.
- You can also enhance your meeting experience with intelligent speaker devices certified for Teams. These devices have multiple microphones to provide high-quality audio and transcription. You can find devices certified for Teams at aka.ms/teamsdevices.
