You only need two simple letters to accurately convey the major shift in the technology space this year: A and I. Beyond those letters, however, is a complex, evolving, and exciting way in which we work, communicate, and collaborate.
In The security Area: Microsoft has introduced an improved source code classifier to help organizations protect their sensitive data from unauthorized access and intellectual property loss. Along with 35 other pre-trained classifiers, this tool can identify critical sensitive content, such as trade secrets, financial information, and personally identifiable information, for GDPR compliance. It supports multiple file extensions and programming languages, enabling detection of embedded and partial source code.
In addition, Microsoft has invested in the Microsoft Graph API platform to support eDiscovery and Audit scenarios. The Audit Search API and eDiscovery (Premium) Export API, currently in preview, automate tasks related to reducing security risks and costs in exporting data for litigation and investigations. With the growing trend of legal departments adopting legal technology, developers can leverage Microsoft Graph APIs to automate workflows in these areas.
Furthermore, Microsoft Entra External ID, the next-generation customer identity and access management platform, has been introduced in preview. It provides flexible control over external identities' resource access and offers adaptive access policies and built-in identity governance. The Entra Verified ID Wallet SDK library feature allows companies to integrate verifiable credentials wallets directly into their apps, enhancing security and user experience. This feature will be generally available in June 2023.
Changes to Azure Fraud Alerts:
Starting from May 2023, you can subscribe to a new security alert for detections related to unauthorized party abuse and account takeovers. This security alert is one of the many ways Microsoft provides the data you need to secure your customer's tenants. To learn more about Azure fraud detection for partners, see Azure fraud detection and notification.
As of May 2023, pilot partners can use the API with the New Events Model. With the new model, you can get new types of alerts as they are added to the system, for example, anomalous compute usage, crypto mining, Azure Machine Learning usage and service health advisory notifications.
In other news: Avatars for Microsoft Teams will be generally available for all Microsoft 365 Business and Enterprise licenses starting June in the Teams desktop app on Windows and Mac. Avatars for Microsoft Teams offers an alternative to the current binary option of video or no video and features customizable avatars and reactions. Avatars give users the option of a camera break, while encouraging engagement and fun.
Microsoft 365 Copilot, currently in private preview, will be integrated into Microsoft Edge, the AI-powered web browser. This integration will bring work-based capabilities to the Edge sidebar, allowing users to ask questions and complete tasks more efficiently.
Users can type natural language requests, and Copilot will generate relevant information based on meetings, emails, and chat threads. When combined with Edge, Copilot will provide context-aware answers by understanding what users are viewing in the browser. For example, users can ask for key takeaways from a document they are currently viewing.
With the addition of Edge, Microsoft ensures that these capabilities adhere to data security and privacy commitments in enterprise settings. To use Microsoft 365 Copilot, users need to be signed into their Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) account.
The platform shift to AI is well underway. Just as customers turned to Microsoft to help them make the shift to remote and flexible work, they’re now turning to us to help them understand how this new era of AI will change work yet again.
The 2023 Annual Work Trend Index surveyed 31,000 people in 31 countries and analysed trillions of aggregated productivity signals in Microsoft 365, along with labour market trends on LinkedIn to understand what the new era of AI means for work. The data paints a clear picture: The pace and volume of work has increased exponentially, and employees are struggling under the weight of work – putting innovation at risk. Leaders and employees alike are eager for AI to lift the burden.
