In October Microsoft Launched New Surface Pro 9 options.

Building on the design changes from the Surface Pro 8 range, The New Surface Pro 9 includes two models with similar core design components.

I wanted to give you a quick update on the Surface Pro 9 With 5G. Powered by the New Microsoft SQ 3 processor, this really is a device optimized for mobility and battery life.

What makes the Surface With 5G Model Different?

Built with mobility and battery life in mind, the 5G model is built with the ARM-based Microsoft SQ® 3 powered by Qualcomm® SnapDragon® with 5G, Allowing upto a masive 19 hours of battery life.

The Pro 9 with 5G can be configured with upto 16GB Ram and 512 GB of SSD.

The Key difference of the Surface Pro 9 With 5G lies in the Microsoft SQ® 3 processor (SnapDragon) and Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

The Snapdragon SQ3 chipset is a custom-built laptop processor from Microsoft, based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 notebook processor family. The SQ3 contains the support for 5G and combined with the NPU allows for a few performance improvements with tasks like Teams Calls.

Increased Video Performance with no CPU Tax

By offloading of Audio/Video processing to the included NPU. The Surface Pro 9 with 5G allows DSLR like background blur, automatic framing, eye contact, and voice focus.

This is a Windows 11 system wide offload to the NPU for any application using a video feed. Freeing up the CPU and GPU to handle other system and application tasks.

I was impressed by the Voice Focus Feature; this blocks background noise for more engaged hybrid work during Teams Calls.

Security and Data Protection

The Surface Pro 9 with 5G models use the Microsoft Pluton processor, providing enhanced protection for encryption, credentials, keys, and personal data. Even if an attacker can get physical access to the device these features still come into play.

Working together with Trusted boot and Secure Boot you have true chip-to-cloud security across the Microsoft Stack.
